Kitchen Assistant
The full interview process consists of one Zoom screen, an interview, and a skills assessment.
Pay range
English only: $24.00/hour
English/Spanish bilingual: $25.20/hour

Schedule is Monday – Friday; hours are 8:00-12:30 p.m. during the school year (late August to mid-June), and 7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. during school breaks (summer break - mid-June to late August, and winter/spring breaks). Opportunity for more hours occasionally available.
Purpose
This position will assist the Food Program Manager in planning, organizing and preparing nutritious meals for the Child Development Program.
Essential Functions
- Assist Food Program Manager in the preparation of breakfast, lunch and snacks daily for children ages 2-14; distribute to classrooms. Daily clean-up of kitchen and appliances, including daily dish washing and periodic deep cleaning.
- Accommodate any youth dietary needs or dietary restrictions.
- Support with inventory of food program (both groceries and materials)
- Work well with others as part of a team.
- Follow Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and Title 22 meal pattern compliance, including food group pairings and serving sizes by age group
- Able to take initiative, multitask, and work independently in absence of Food Program Manager
- Be accountable to staff, agency, and CACFP regulatory procedures.
- Prepare grocery lists and support ordering and grocery shopping as needed in absence of Food Program Manager
- Consistent attendance and punctuality
- Other tasks assigned by Food Program Manager, Child Development Program Director and/or Leadership Team.
Required:
- Conversational English
- Two years of experience in a kitchen
- ServSafe Food Handlers Manager Card (can be completed upon hire)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Basic knife skills
- Job may include walking up and down stairs, bending, reaching, repetitive movements, standing for up to 3 hours at a time, lifting and moving small items of up to 25 lbs.
- Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) training
- Prior experience working in a childcare setting
- Experience preparing meals for groups of 50-100 people
- Basic MS Excel skills
- Meal prep experience for children ages 2 and older
- Experience with Marin County health inspections
Conditions of Hire:
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless granted a medical or religious exemption.
- Pre-employment health exam including proof of vaccinations and TB test clearance.
- Criminal record clearance or exemption from California Department of Social Services. All convictions other than minor traffic violations require an exemption, including convictions that have been expunged.
